Q. Why is Lucite better than typical plastic?
A. The difference between Lucite and Plastic is like the difference between glass and crystal. Lucite does not crack or chip as easily as plastic and scratches can be easily buffed out. Lucite is carved and not molded therefore it has no seams. It is denser and a slightly heavier than plastic.
Q. How do I know my Lucite is real?
A. Lucite is a trademark owned by DuPont Chemical Company and therefore other plastics cannot legally be called Lucite. We provide a certificate of authenticity with every product we sell.
Q. Where did the Lucite come from?
A. Our Lucite beads and bangles come from the dead stock inventory of Best Plastics, a Providence, Rhode Island factory that manufactured Lucite during the sixties and seventies. Many of the bangles and beads in our stock are featured in the collectors book
Plastic Bangles by Lyn Tortoriello and Deborah Lyons. Best Plastics manufactured and designed jewelry for Avon, Coro, Trifari, Napier and Diane Von Furstenberg. In its day, the factory was THE leader in its industry.
Q. Why are some bangles priced different from others?
A. Bangle prices reflect rarity and style.
Q. What size are the bangles?
A. The inside diameter is the same for all the bangles, 2.5 inches.
Q. Who is Joseph LaRose?
A. He designed from the 1940s thru the 1980s. Clients included some of fashions greatest icons: Marilyn Monroe, Jacqueline Kennedy, Joan Crawford and Jane Mansfield. Our shoes were acquired brand new in their boxes direct form the LaRose estate. They are part of the same collection auctioned off at Sotheby’s to collectors and designers like Marc Jacobs, Kate Spade and Donna Karan.
Q. Are the LaRose shoes in good condition?
A. Yes. They are in excellent vintage condition and have never been worn. Because they are vintage they are delicate and are not for every day wear. A few may need new heel taps as they are old and brittle. This can be done inexpensively at any shoe repair shop.
